Fine & sterling silver w/ natural American turquoise:

I created the pendant from a mold that I made from a vintage button.  The resulting fine silver cabochon was sweat soldered onto a 20 g sterling silver backplate and adorned with a silver granulation.  The chain is 22 gauge sterling silver rosary wrapped natural American turquoise beads finished with my handmade clasp and hallmark & content tag.  The fantastic plate is one of a stacking trio made by Kelly Bonner.

My Poor Neglected Blog!

I haven't abandoned my blog but I certainly have neglected it.  I got so busy making new jewelry that I couldn't pull myself away to write anything.  I'm also waiting on my photographer (aka my husband) to have the time to take a lot of photos.  There is a serious backlog of items that need to be photographed.

I haven't written a Randy update since--I don't even remember the last one.  My kitty boy is quickly winding down his kittenhood and looking and acting more and more like an adult cat.  The vet's age estimate means that he'll be a year old the first week of July.  My formerly timid little boy has become a confident, loving cat who runs and plays like a Tasmanian devil but snuggles, purrs, and head bunts like a little love sponge.  It seems like eons ago that he was such a terrified little feral kitten.  Patience, love, and persistence really paid some major dividends!

And, last but not least...I found out last night that I was one of the 46 winners in the 7th Bead Soup Blog Party Contest.  I feel a combination of shock and joy.  I'm just so honored to be included among such a talented group of designers.  I'd like to extend many thanks and huge hugs to both Lori Anderson (creator & host of Bead Soup Blog Party) and Karin Van Voorhees (a senior editor at Kalmbach Books).

Happy Mother's Day

to all who are mothers!  I also include in that number the many women who are raising their relatives' children, etc.  They deserve immense credit, too.

Innocence Project Fundraiser

The Innocence Project New Orleans is having their fundraising gala on May 9th.  I support them in their efforts to exonerate factually innocent prisoners, expose injustice, and prevent wrongful convictions.  To date, The Innocence Project New Orleans has won the exoneration or freedom of 22 innocent men--at no cost to their families.  A sad truth about Louisiana and Mississippi is that those states have the highest incarceration rates in the entire world!

I have donated a necklace for their silent auction.  It's a simple dome pendant on a rosary-style chain but what makes it different is the message that it permanently carries.  Contained inside the dome is Emily Dickinson's quote:  "Hope is a thing with feathers--that perches in the soul--and sings the tune without words--and never stops at all."  I chose that as a reminder that we should not ever give up hope--hope that our broken criminal justice system will be fixed, hope that those who have been wrongfully convicted will be exonerated and released, and hope that there will be no additional wrongful convictions.

The money raised at the gala will be use to provide free legal aid to those who have been wrongfully incarcerated.  If you or someone you know would like to make a donation, please contact Diondra Marchus at DiondraM (at) ip-no (dot) org , (504) 943-1905, or 3301 Chartres St, New Orleans LA  70117.  You can also help raise money when you shop online by clicking through the links provided on this page:  http://ip-no.org/make-a-difference.
